Default JJ - Do you do anything different?

MP3 is 54/8/2 after 26 hands, CO is 33/10/1.5 after 125.

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, MP3 calls, CO calls, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>.

Flop: (7.50 SB) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP3 raises</font>, CO folds, Hero calls.

Turn: (5.75 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, MP3 checks.

River: (5.75 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP3 raises</font>, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 9.75 BB

Anyone do anything different this hand?

This is a tricky hand. Is MP3 sophisticated enough to try the free card play? Looks more like MP3 has a King. His turn check is weird and leads me to believe that he *was* trying for a free card on the flop.

This is how I would play it:
Bet/call flop. Check/fold turn. Check/fold river. Especially on the river - fold because the pot isn't too big and there are two overcards.

Anyone else play this differently? Pot is small, so I'm unsure of any really fancy plays.

I didn't think he was, but he definitely took one this hand.

Check-call the river. He likely either checked behind with a monster or a flush draw. He'll raise your bet with the monster, he'll call with the ace high flush draw, and by betting you stop him from bluffing with the busted smaller flush draw.

Since you did bet, I'd fold to the raise.

Given that he took a free card on the turn, I can't see how betting the river is a good option here. Is he really going to call you with a busted [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] draw? What about JT?

You should check the river and then decide what to do if and when he bets. I would almost surely call eventhough I'll expect to get shown Ax [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] fairly often.

Yea, Thanks. When I was looking at the hand afterwards, I figured check/call was better than the bet on the river. I called down because I was so confused by his line I wanted to see his hand.

You prefer bet/fold to check/call? Why?

I don't understand why river is a check/call. Pot isn't big and there are two overcards. You know MP3 has at least one of them because he coldcalled two preflop.

WTF?
