Re: metropolis......
I live about an hour from the Harrah's boat in Metropolis, Illinois (just across the river from Paducah, KY). I had not heard any rumors about them adding a poker room. My understanding was that no poker room was coming because their Illinois gaming license is limited to a certain number of "gaming positions" and that a number of slots or other games would have to go. I hope I am wrong and you are right.

Re: metropolis......
There's a poker room at Casino Aztar in Evansville, IN. If you're coming from Nashville, Evansville is only 150 miles away (almost exactly the same distance as Metropolis). You could also go to Caesars Indiana for another 50 miles, or Tunica for another 90. It would be nice to have something closer, but there are plenty of good places to play within a few hours drive. If you're thinking of travelling all the way to Metropolis you shouldn't have a problem making it to any of these other casinos either.

Re: metropolis......
I am from Metropolis (although right now I am going to school in St. Louis), but I haven't heard anything about adding a poker room. Where did you hear that? When is it supposed to be ready?

It has a population around 7,000, and a giant Superman statute on the courthouse square. And no, I am not kidding. |

i heard end of march. but i called and now they say end of april. are you sure aztar is only 150 mile from nashville? [/ QUOTE ] I played a small local charity tournament last night with a bunch of college guys and I heard several of them talking about the rumor of poker coming to Harrah's Metropolis. I've haven't called myself, but that sounds like great news to me. I'm not sure if it's a very good or a very bad thing for me, but that would put live poker within an hour's drive of me.. I did just go to the Harrah's Metropolis website and if the poker room is coming, it wasn't important enough to them to mention on the webpage. Of course, I found plenty of info about their rip-off slot and blackjack tournaments. Not to sound like a pessimist over what would be a good thing for me, but I have a funny feeling that Harrah's will rake heavily and comp very lightly. Oh, and to the Nashville guy-I'm almost positive that Evansville is no farther, and mayber closer, to you than Metropolis. |
