Re: 5 card draw night
by "regular", do you mean like a professional type game, or a game where everyone ante's and draws four?

Re: 5 card draw night
Put a joker in the deck, it's much more fun. The joker can be an Ace, complete a flush or complete a straight. It cannot be any other RANK of card... i.e. it's impossible to have 5 of a kind 7's. Yay, extra ace!
Assuming you usually play .50/1 limit games I suggest: Ante: $.25, predraw betting is $1 and postdraw betting is $2. You can draw any amount of cards, including 5. All play, including discard/draw proceeds in order from the left of the dealer. Rapping pat (not drawing any cards) can become quite a bluff move here. You can either play "jacks or better" (common with the joker) or "guts to open". If you're playing JoB and no one can/will open then the antes go to the middle, the deck gets passed and everyone antes again. If someone opens in JoB and you can prove that they didn't have a pair of jacks then they forfiet the pot (just go ahead and let it ride) even if they put together a flush or something. Therefore, if you have to break your pair of jacks to draw to a straight you MUST keep the cards separate until after the hand, don't just muck them all together. It's perfectly acceptable to bluff the opening but you're at risk to get caught. If you do end up playing TDL then make the dealer post .50 for everyone's antes and drop the betting to .50/.50/1/1. Single draw lowball should be played like draw above |
