just got a call from Visa Fraud Protection
Apparently, purchasing a plane ticket, online membership to a website thru CC Bill, and musical instrument books within 24 hrs flags your account.
but I did do all that....LOL RB |

Re: just got a call from Visa Fraud Protection
I get calls like this all the time.
If I spend anywhere over 300+ in slightly random purchases, I get called. Happened maybe 5 or 6 times last year. |

Re: just got a call from Visa Fraud Protection
My favorite was when I called Visa from my hotel room in Vegas to find out why my account was locked and found it was because "someone had bought airline tickets to Vegas and booked a hotel in Vegas on my card". I was going to Vegas twice a year at the time, so my card history would have shown this.
I said, it can't be that rare that buy airline tickets online and pay for a hotel room. They explained that they had had tried to contact me at home to verify, but hadn't been able to. I went smart ass on them, suggesting that the airline tickets and hotel charges were a clue that perhaps I wasn't at home. They explained it was just a preca |

Re: just got a call from Visa Fraud Protection
When I was living in Europe, my card was unexpectedly locked, and also cancelled. Why they waited until the charges had piled up for months I don't know, but the explanation I got was actually that it was my fault, since I had failed to call my friendly local VISA people that I would be in Europe. I don't mind getting the fraud calls as it makes me feel like they're paying attention, but that was a bit ridiculous. A huge hassle as well to get another one out to me in Germany.

Happened to me on Thursday. I guess they never heard of Spring Break. Apparently lunch in Vegas, dinner in Cincy, and Wendy's in Minnesota set them off.

Re: just got a call from Visa Fraud Protection
I got a call in October of 2003 - my CC statement showed that $3,000 in computer gear was purchased in Los Angeles and SHIPPED to Minnesota.
This time, they got it right. I was sent an affidavit to fill out explaining I did not make those purchases. The purchases were made on the internet with a card I ONLY USE ON THE INTERNET. Hmmm. The only places I used that card were 1. Amazon.com; 2. Dell Computer; 3. Poker sites; I was told that the card account had been hacked and the registered e-mail had been changed one-week prior to the purchase. |
