Default $200NL AA hand

$200 buy in NLHE at Absolute, big blind is $1. Stacks can be hugely deep.

Villain in this hand I have covered, and is a losing player. I would categorize him as the practical weak-passive player. I've only seen him show strength on scary boards where I'd like to presume he had the best of it.

I hold Ac Ad on the button. Full table.

UTG+1 makes it 4, player in MP calls, I repop to 14, UTG+1 calls, and MP player folds.

At the beginning of the hand I have approx ~100, he has approx. ~80.

Flop comes 2d Kh 6d

I slowplay. He checks, I check behind. Maybe this was a mistake?

Turn comes 2h. He checks, I bet $10 (approx. a third of the pot) and he calls.

River comes 7c. He checks, I lead for $20 (a little less than half the pot), and he calls.

1) How'd I do?
2) What could he have?

are you going to let him draw at his diamond flush with his AdKd for free?

in all reality, he probably had QQ/JJ. if he had KK, he played it pretty poorly.

you kept it small, probably a good choice.

Don't slowplay here. If he has AK, he'll pay off.

I like to slowplay when the preflop action is like that and the flop comes with a low pair, like 522 or something. In those cases you're usually way way ahead and by checking the flop you'll get him to bet the turn with TT-QQ.

Never Never Never slowplay AA...Why? It is only one pair. You should have gone all in on the flop or at least a pot + size raise.
Big pairs like AA and KK usually have 2 outcomes.
1. You win a small pot.
2. You lose a big pot.

It is best to take your small pot and be happy.

i'll take a stab.

it's okay to slowplay AA (or big pair) if it's heads up, you have position, and if the stack sizes allow you to get his stack in on the flop.

Indeed. I'd also like to note that I deliberately included an 'always' in my post for irony value.

Much much better.

Don't forget your opponent as well. Against a very aggressive opponent who'll blow off their stack with TT or JJ, a call, call and then raise the river line can be very profitable as well.

Edit: Out of position is OK too if the remaining stack sizes are PERFECT so that a checkraise on the flop puts you all in. I think the guideline is the remaining stacks have to be about 3x the current pot.
