If you could ... would you?
After thinking about the basic idea of playing against someone who is mentally retarded, I started to think about the question "if you could, would you?"
I am curious to see the responses. I mean for the question to be as open ended as possible. I dont mean for the question to be directly about the previous post or even necessarily about poker. Greg |

I voted yes I would play. I wouldn't go out of my way looking to play with them, but i wouldn't avoid playing either.

Re: If you could ... would you?
My first time ever playing in a casino i got sat with a mentally retarded dwarf in a wheelchair to my right and every, i stress every time it came around to his turn to act he would ask how much... and we were playing flippin limit hold'em. And he accused me of overcrowding his chips with mine and he didn't want me to accidently take his chips. So for 4 hours i had to listen to him piss off every dealer, the only thing that kept the others at the table tolerant of him was he kept rebuying and putting money into the pot and folding on the river. But the never ending asking of "how much?" did get to everyone at the table. That along with his guardian or whoever it was sitting behind him that could not speak english and insisted on wanting to know what happened and why he did whatever he did every hand. Entertaining expierience.

Re: If you could ... would you?
up at college our dorm has a regular game every wednesday night and a lot of kids play including one kid who is slightly mentally retarted. at first i didnt like it because i felt like we were stealing his money but i think its better to let him just play and be one of the boys then say he couldnt play with us.
anyway..he tells his hands and calls or bets with nothing mostly and loses all his money but at least hes not rejected. |

Re: If you could ... would you?
How can you live with yourselves if you play with someone like that? If I were to play I would lose any money I make back to him.
This would be like playing an 8-year old. There's a lot better ways to get money. |

Re: If you could ... would you?
having made the decision to play poker, i would feel churlish to refuse to play against someone who is mentally handicapped.
However, i would chat with them to get a handle on the fact that they were willing to get pwned by my outstanding play. |
