Do sites monitor/track who plays who in heads up tournaments?
Curious because a friend of mine got an email from one of the big poker sites that a person he played in mulitple heads up tournaments back to back was actually someone who was using a fradulent account. The details were not disclosed, but apparently the opponent stole an account and was playing HU $100NL tournaments, and my buddy beat him once and was challenged to a rematch, and beat him again, rinse and repeat. My buddy won $500 in 2 hours off this guy. I'm not really sure what the point of the email was, but is there anyway they can take his money back if it was a stolen account? He's worried but at the same time there's no way they would do that. Thoughts?

If they think your friend was involved with the person and was recieving stolen chips through the toruneys to launder them, then his account will be frozen and the money in it (or at least the money won from that guy) taken.

Re: Do sites monitor/track who plays who in heads up tournaments?
That's kind of scary. I guess internet poker is guilty until proven innocent. What if my buddy made an immediate withdrawl (he hasn't yet) through netteller or firepay (not sure who he's using) to his bank account and then withdrew that amount? He's worried about this, he obviously has nothing to do with the guy at all, and thought he was some big HU tournaments. The guy was playing on tilt after the first one.

Why is the title of this post "DO sites monitor/track who plays who in HU tournaments". Obviously, they do.

You're right. Obviously they do because hand histories are available, but I wonder to what extent. They see this guy lose $500 to another player, and how far do they go to get fraudulent money back? How do they determine if this guy is in on it, and will he get in trouble for withdrawing his money? Seems like a very bizarre, yet rare scenario but I'd imagine it's happened.

If he tries to withdraw his withdraw will be denied and his funds confiscated as they will take it as him being guilty and trying to flee.
If I were the site I'd look into this too as it must look VERY odd. |

Tell him to chill and wait. What else can he do?
