Re: Italy to follow the weak policies of Spain
I don't think Italy is afraid, I think they're just angry enough about the killing of the female journalist (I don't remember her name), that they no longer want to support our efforts in Iraq.

Re: Italy to follow the weak policies of Spain
I'm not sure that they are afraid, but I think they are getting a lot of pressure at home to pull out. I think its sad how weak Europe has gotten in the past 50 years. The last great war must have finally broken the spirit of Europe. All the constant warring is probably over there, I guess thats a good thing. However, I don't really like how spinless most of Europe has become.

Re: Italy to follow the weak policies of Spain
I don't think it is just Italy who is afraid; I think the majority of western countries are afraid of US ignorance in dealing with international politics. Throwing untrained, inexperienced and scared young kids into battle zones where more could be achieved with highly professional, non-confrontational, experienced forces worries most sane people.

Re: Italy to follow the weak policies of Spain
If weak means saving lives, then yes Italy is being "weak".
And I'm glad that they're pulling troops from Iraq. Why don't you drag your fat elephant butt over there and fight for our country, BGC? |

Re: Italy to follow the weak policies of Spain
This is huge +EV for Italy right now. They're going to pull out in September 2005, not now. First of all, they get any insurgents or terrorists to back off on their citizens in Iraq. Second of all, they make sure to keep their troops from now till September, which may very well be the crucial time period in Iraq. Third of all, they get a really nice exit strategy that they may not even use. Fourth, you get to wait 5 months to do anything. Fifth, it's a politically necessary move. Sixth, they made no mention the number of troops they were pulling out.
+EV across the board. Solid, solid move. |

Re: Italy to follow the weak policies of Spain
It was about time the goverment of Italy follow the mandate of their citizens. Hopefully Britain will do the same.
