In his intro to the March magazine, Mason Mulmuth mentions that there are two books which are often criticised as below the 2+2 standards. I know Suzuki's tournament book is one, but what is the other?

If I had to guess, I'd guess PokerFarce and PokerTruth.

Psychology of Poker? Not a bad book IMO, but very thin.

That's not it. POP is well spoken of. In fact, Mason has referenced it, and I doubt he'd do that if it was one of the books he wasn't proud of. I suspect Maurile is correct.

But I am so tempted to say TPFAP. [/ QUOTE ] The extremes of comments on TPFAP are puzzeling. I haven't read it yet (next in my queue). Many have held it up as one of the must-read tournament books, whereas others have disparaged it as practically worthless. Why the divergence? |

The extremes of comments on TPFAP are puzzeling. I haven't read it yet (next in my queue). Many have held it up as one of the must-read tournament books, whereas others have disparaged it as practically worthless. Why the divergence? [/ QUOTE ] I have the book, and it is also on my to-do list. After a brief scan, the book looks well worth reading to me. A lot of the criticism I have seen, here and elsewhere, seems to be based on the fact that the author, old whats-his-name, is not a big-name tournament player, impling that he therefore has no business writing a book about tournaments. I don't recall anyone ever citing specific examples of strategic errors in the book. |

[/ QUOTE ] The value of the book is the discussion of the gap concept and how chips change value. The rest of the text is decent, but it's not 2+2 standard. Compared to many other books on tournaments it's not bad, it's just not what you expect from a 2+2 book. Personally I think it's a wee bit too survival oriented, but it's not in the same league as Cloutier by any means. Pretty much supplemental reading. Which basically nothing else out of 2+2 is. |
