Better to charge the max or keep the pot small?
$100 mtt on Party.
Level One. I have t920 and AsJd on the button. I open to 55. SB calls, he has t840 to start the hand. heads up, t125 in the pot. J95 two [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. He checks, I bet t105 and he calls. t335 in the pot. Turn offsuit K. He checks. Do I check or bet? I think a case can be made for both. My default play would be to bet and charge him for a draw since it looks like I have the best hand, but I'd like to hear thoughts on this common situation. Thanks much. |

Re: Better to charge the max or keep the pot small?
I always bet. One third of the pot is pretty good charge for a flush draw, and it loses the minimum to a reraise by QT or a set.
Checking intrigues me because it can induce a bluff, and might earn you more than betting when you are ahead. But in this case, you probably are not be able to call a big bluff, esp. if a diamond, ten, queen or king hits the river. |

I think a continuation bet on the turn is needed to define where you are in the hand. If you get played back at, you should be done w/ the hand.
Hope all is well. |
