Could humans and monkeys be surrogate parents of the other species?
Was discussing this with my Biology graduate, animal loving friend, and she thinks so. She also thinks humans could give birth to oter animals too. Seems a little unlikely. Does anyone have any illumination to shine on this subject?

Re: Could humans and monkeys be surrogate parents of the other species?
You are asking two things, correct?
1: Yes, it's pretty obvious humans can be effective surrogate parents to primates. There have been many examples of chimps etc. that have been trained to perform all kinds of tasks, usually by having a human surrogate parent/trainer with them throughout their life. 2: Naturally, no. Human genetics are different enough from that of primates they could not breed. Thanks to the advances in genetics, however, it seems they get closer and closer to accomplishing this in a lab. Re: Could humans and monkeys be surrogate parents of the other species?
Thanks. What I meant is this: you can implant the DNA of a male chimp into a female chimp egg which has been stripped of its DNA. You could then implant this egg inside a female chimp, and it would give birth. This is cloning. But could you take this egg, and implant it inside a human, and have her successfully give birth? My friend thinks so.

I highly doubt this is possible unless if you genetically alter the animals to the point that they aren't sexually compatible with their original species. The hurdles required in altering the blood alone are immense. But for more info, do a search on my Chimera thread I started a couple of weeks ago. |
