EPT Copenhagen - Trip report
Here's some random crap that happened before the tournament started:
Met a bunch of Americans, got drunk Walked through the streets of Copenhagen in search of food at 5:00 AM. Yeah, that pretty much sums up Friday night. I have to say, this is pretty much the shittiest hotel/casino I've ever seen. The casino closes at 4:00 AM. The restaraunts close earlier than that. The only thing within walking distance is a gas station, which also closes at 11:00 PM. Lucky for me, the blackjack gods were good, and I made enough to cover my BAR TAB for friday night. That's right, I spent $300 at the bar. That's what happens when you've gotta pay $10 for a shot of sambuca, and $6 for a rum and coke. [censored]' casino...$20 cheeseburger my ass. The tournament was a good experience for me. I can honestly go back and say that I played every hand pretty badly. For example: Agressive young euro with about 14k makes it T350 to go in EP. Blinds 50/100. I call in LP with JJ. Flop: J64 rainbow. I check, euro bets T350. I lose my mind and raise to 1350. Euro folds. Another hand: Euro pro makes it T600 to go 100/200 blinds, I call with 55. Flop T76. I check raise two players for T1800, and one calls. I fire out T1800 again on the blank turn, and he raises to T3000. I lie and said I had a club draw/straight draw, and he showed his obvious set. Drawing dead is sweet. And the final hand, where I got eliminated by ZeeJustin. Zee had played about 4 pots in a row...first he sucked out with K9s against TT, all in. Then lost with AK against A9, all in. Then, raised with KK and stole the blinds. Folded to him in the SB, I check with A2o. Flop 7T7. He checkraises me, and I push, and he calls with 75. Whoops? In conclusion, casino copenhagen sucks and I'm really hungry. I'm paying $40 a day for this internet access. I can't even charge up my laptop/ipod, cause all the power in the room shuts off when I leave (the key thing). Lucky for me, the taxi will take me to the 24 hour mcdonalds. Sidenote: Marcel is as cool as he looks on TV, Raymer is a really nice guy, and Dutch Boyd and his girlfriend are really friendly. Sidenote 2: Danish chicks are hot. |

Re: EPT Copenhagen - Trip report
I was just hoping you weren't the young guy mentioned in the PS blog that took 6.5 minutes to call a river bet and lost to a flush.
And yeah, the three hands you mentioned you more or less butchered. But at least you're learning from it. |

Electricity problem
Tell the hotel you lost your key. They will give you a new one. Now you have one to let you in to the room, one to keep the power one.

Christ, no. That wasn't me. I talked to that kid afterwords. He was pretty upset at how badly he played.
My collapse in 38th is reminiscent of when I started playing online MTT's. I played well for 9 hours, and for whatever reason, decided that Zee would be a good beneficiary for my chips. I'm pretty sure I'm the worst poker player ever. I've definatley got the tourney bug, though. I wish I were of age to play in the US! |

Re: EPT Copenhagen - Trip report
That kid ought to be upset. His opponent called bets on the flop and turn, what other hand could he have had when he pushed on the river?

Re: EPT Copenhagen - Trip report
That's not the worst one.
Some guy calles a utg 3*bb bet. He gets check-raiset on the flop - 566 rainbow. He then thinks about it for such a long time that the tournament manager comes over and gives him 1 minute and 10 sec., before his hand is automatically folded. With 7 or 8 secs left, he calles with ATs. The all in raiser showes AA, and is kicked out of the main event, by a runner runner flush. |

The thing that makes this so inexplicable is that the guy made the call AFTER GOING INTO THE TANK. The point of The Tank, one might suspect, is to avoid making a bad decision, to make the proper play. How in hell this guy concluded that a call here was correct is beyond me. And then he sucks out in the most agonizing manner available. So wrong, so wrong. |
