Default Greed, Rivers and You...AK in the SB

Loose and slightly over-aggressive player open-raises from UTG+1. Truly awful player throws $15 more at the $15 blind he posted in UTG+2. Another awful player calls in the CO. I 3bet from SB with AKo, and my three new friends call along. 4 to the flop.

Flop is K98r

I bet out, UTG+1 and UTG+2 call.

Turn is a 7, putting 2 hearts on the board.

I bet, get two callers.

River is the 2 of hearts.

I check, UTG+1 bets, UTG+2 calls, I raise, UTG+1 3bets, UTG+2 folds, I fold.

I assume this is part of the reason you chose to post this hand, but why not just call the river?

I like this if you had the A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I'm assuming the K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] wasn't on the board, because that would make it a lot less likely he has the flush that he obviously has (unless you have the Ah and the Kh is on the board), if you get what I'm saying. the fold is fine, but I'm wondering why you went for the c/r? there's on guarantee something worse than a K bets there. I'm wondering what advantages this has over betting and calling a raise. will the awful player autobet if checked to?

I assume you mean "bet," not "call," and I didn't bet it because I liked my chances of extracting 3 or 4 BBs on the river if the over-aggro guy bet out.

Sorry, the Kh was not on the board. I assumed the overaggro guy would bet a hand like A9 or TT, and that Mr. awful might call 2 bets with an 8 or better if he paid on the installment plan. Awful player won't bet w/o a hand that beats me.

is the overaggro guy tight enough that you can assume he has a hand worth betting most of the time? if so, I think that's a great plan. if not, I don't like the thought of it getting checked through when the awful player is licking his chops at the opportunity to call a bet with a busted gut shot

Is this online or live? If it's live, did you happen to look left and notice UTG+1 was ready to bet?

I actually meant call when it was 1 back to you after you checked, but I probably would've led the river and called a raise. Of course, if you think you can trap the field for 3 or 4 big bets, then go get 'em, tiger.

That's pretty much the essence of the play, no? If I get this answer, the river play becomes cake.
