Thought there was a decent chance I still in the lead, and had a ton of outs.

ugh.

don't raise the flop. don't bet the turn.

consider folding the river, and then call if you suspect CO would play unpaired overcards this way.

Check call the turn and check-fold the river.

CO looks to have an overpair. The 4s isn't a scare card for him. You aren't going to get him to fold an overpair. But you do have a very strong draw. So check-call the turn, cr the river if you hit.

I agree with the others, you were too agressive on this one. But given you put all that cash in the pot you might as well see what the dude has.

*shrug*

why not?

i can see a flop raise... particularly if you can see this guy getting passive and calling down/paying off with overcards... but i think more frequently you're ok folding a lot of the time on the turn without improvement, and if you're not currently behind you're vulnerable to redraws, plus you're opening yourself up to an unpleasant 3-bet. you've got a backdoor flush draw, and medium pair shitty kicker. CO could be on a steal raise and you might want to try clearing up overcard outs with a raise, fine, but i'd prefer to see the turn cheaply.

you pick up outs on the turn, but not enough to jam the pot... your opponent's 3-bet on the flop should let you know he can beat middle-pair, so you're likely drawing here, and you're not getting sufficient odds to bet this presuming a raise.

if you think you're ahead, you're putting your opponent on overcards, that you'd like him to bluff you all the way down on. even if he's a certifiable LAG, you don't want to play back at him... you want him to overbet this hand. playing back affords him the opportunity to get out when the gettin's good, or punish you with his overpair.

with more players or a stronger flop draw i could see this line, but it's small. call if bet to, bet if checked to, i'd call a raise on either street in those circumstances, and i'd call the river against opponents i presume willing to bet overcards the whole way like this.

Default Ok, betting the turn was poor,

but so far only one person has commented on the flop check-raise which which I thought was standard in this situation?

Also conflicting responses on the river which I guess makes it close. If I check/call the turn is it an easy river fold?

I agree that you were over-aggressive here. The flop play I like. It defines your opponent as either not fearing the board or on a stone-cold bluff. I'd check/call him down to try to make the flush which is probably good if MP isn't. Though a turn fold is legit as well. But I generally want a player to show me the best hand.
