Pushing TPTK too hard?

No real reads on anyone because I was working on learning how to use and registering PokerTracker. (Any good tutorials? :P) Anyways... how did I play this?

Yea, I've heard so many people say how stupid it is to bet almost all your stack on the turn when you know its all going in on the river, so why not bet it all on the turn.. Now I know exactly what they mean. Thanks.

This is a fine hand, just got unlucky that he hit on the river.

Raise more pre-flop. My standard raise at this level is $3. In all honesty, if I had 47s from the BB and it was another $1 for me to see a flop, I might do it.

Post-flop play, you played perfectly. You ruined his odds to hit his flush, but he hit anyway. It happens. Just reload and you'll be able to make it all back.

As a previous poster said, I´m pushing the turn. The odds you give him on the turn to chase a very possible flush aren't sufficcient, but they aren't terrible either. Anyways, I think the average SSNL player who is calling $10 is calling $17.

Maybe it's weak, but as it turned out, I'm checking behind on the river. It's too often a flush for this to be +EV IMO.

The problem here is that the board has no draws. When you get a flop call, you're up against either another AK, AQ-AT, A9, A3 (each, and especially A9, with a potential backdoor flush draw) or a set. There's a slight possibility of being up against KK-TT but not enough where I'd consider it -- any of those would have either raised preflop or folded on the flop.

In short, it's likely you're behind.

The turn gives you another difference. Unlike above, where you are potentially up against the flush draw and can't beat it if the spade falls, here, you have the draw. There are very few cards that can hurt you, behind or not. Sure, there are some which will cost you your stack if you're against a set (any K, the 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]), but that's 4 cards -- no worries.

In short: The turn card gives you no reason to push. The flop call gives you reason not to.

Take the free card.
