Too aggressive with top set on a monotone flop?
PStars .5/1
I don't have the hand history, so I'll do my best. I've got QQ in MP, 1 caller to me, I raise, 1 caller Flop comes Q93 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Villain checks to me, I raise, he check raises, I call. Turn is a blank, villain bets, I call River is another [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], villain bets, I call. Too aggressive? Too passive? Any thoughts? |

I take it one of the Q's wasnt a diamond.
If thats the case, I would have folded to the check-raise. |

Re: Too aggressive with top set on a monotone flop?
No, one of the Q's wasn't a diamond. (the Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] was on the board). Don't I have odds to draw to a set though? Couldn't I be up agains AxA [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]? or A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Kx? Any other thoughts?
Oh, btw, my read on villain is typical laggy idiot. |

Action seems pretty standard. If villian is uber-LAG I might call down regardless of river but against a typical opponent I would fold if river doesnt pair the board.

[/ QUOTE ] thats horrid advice, you have a good hand with a huge draw, and you lay it down for 1sb ... uh you are about 2to1 against filling up by the river, and LAGs like to bluff flushes, no reason to give them credit just yet for the flush you need to 3bet this flop, he could have anything and giving a lone flush card a cheap turn is really bad |

Either 3-bet that flop, or raise the turn blank. Top set beats a lot of hands that would play agressively here.

RESULTS
Villain shows QJo, no [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. I take down the pot, but I feel that I lost a lot of value on this hand.

Re: RESULTS
getting checkraised on a board like that is always scary. thats why IMO you must 3-bet the flop to establish dominance in the hand, and to gain information while its still cheap relative to the bets on later streets. if he has the flush he will probably cap. he could easily have put you on overcards or JJ-99 and think his hand is good. the people who are saying fold the flop are wrong. even if you know he has the nut flush you ALWAYS have odds to draw to a boat. with the river being another diamond you might want to consider folding then, but not before. even then i have difficulty folding top set in a HU pot.
