Vegas in July WSOP questions.

A few buddies and I are planning a trip to Vegas in early July but haven't decided which week to go as of yet. One of my buddies who has more money than brains wants to play in one of the smaller($1000) buy in WSOP tournaments. Has anyone seen a confirmed schedule as to when these events are? I have seen three different sites with conflicting information.
What things can he expect with regards to sign up and procedures before hand? Do they limit the number of entries in the smaller ones?

Would you expect the games in other casinos to be affected by the events going on? More or less difficult at lower levels,say 3/6 to 5/10 and $500 max buy in no limit? Or no affect at this low level? Would we be better off waiting until it is over?

Is there easy spectator access during these events? We would like to watch some of the main event and if my buddy plays we would want to sweat him of course.

Any general comments welcome or specific experiences would be helpful as well.
