PC memory
Hey all, is there a way to figure out what kind of memory my PC has without actually opening it up and looking? I am going to upgrade my memory but I am not sure which kind to get. Thanks.

Re: PC memory
You are going to have to open it to install it anyways, so .... Why not just open it now. I would assume you should be able to use SDRAM which is what you would most likely want to go with...

I think you could put the make and model in and it will point you to the right memory. But you are going to have to open it sometime |

Re: PC memory
If you know your model number, you should be able to look it up on the manufacturer's support site.
But it is definitely a good idea to open it up before going to the store to verify what you have now (current RAM amount, number of slots, etc). |

Re: PC memory
You could try looking in the manual/user's guide. I guess nowadays these are mostly on a CD. If it is a brand-name PC, try the manufacturer's website. If that fails, a Google search on the manufacturer+model number may turn something up (like a used equipment sales place that happens to have some specs on a webpage). Also look on Ebay.

Re: PC memory
You can very easily by downloading a free piece of software called SiSoft Sandra. It is a diagnostic program that will analyze every aspect of your computer. It will also run a variety of performance tests to let you know how your computer stacks up against other speed computers.
