Default PC memory

Hey all, is there a way to figure out what kind of memory my PC has without actually opening it up and looking? I am going to upgrade my memory but I am not sure which kind to get. Thanks.

You are going to have to open it to install it anyways, so .... Why not just open it now. I would assume you should be able to use SDRAM which is what you would most likely want to go with...

I think you could put the make and model in and it will point you to the right memory. But you are going to have to open it sometime

If you know your model number, you should be able to look it up on the manufacturer's support site.

But it is definitely a good idea to open it up before going to the store to verify what you have now (current RAM amount, number of slots, etc).

You could try looking in the manual/user's guide. I guess nowadays these are mostly on a CD. If it is a brand-name PC, try the manufacturer's website. If that fails, a Google search on the manufacturer+model number may turn something up (like a used equipment sales place that happens to have some specs on a webpage). Also look on Ebay.

You can very easily by downloading a free piece of software called SiSoft Sandra. It is a diagnostic program that will analyze every aspect of your computer. It will also run a variety of performance tests to let you know how your computer stacks up against other speed computers.
