Re: Those one-card straights--played correctly?
I might 3-bet the river, it seems very odd that he would just call the turn upon completing his one-card straight and raise the river. I think you have the best hand here.

Re: Those one-card straights--played correctly?
Am I the only one who would 3bet the river every time? I'm not particularly worried about KT or a boat, and for every time you expect to split there'll be one where you see two pair or something silly like that.

Re: Those one-card straights--played correctly?
I agree with you entirely, but sometimes raising/3-betting might not have all the value you think it does:
Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (6 max, 6 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is BB with 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. UTG calls, 2 folds, Button calls, SB completes, Hero checks. Flop: (4 SB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players) SB checks, Hero checks, UTG checks, Button checks. Turn: (2 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players) SB checks, Hero bets, UTG folds, Button calls, SB folds. River: (4 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, Button raises, Hero 3-bets, Button caps, Hero calls. Final Pot: 12 BB Results in white below: Hero has 5c 6d (straight, six high). Button has 5s As (straight, five high). Outcome: Hero wins 12 BB. Most of the time, these types of hands are just splits. IMO, what you have to consider is the likelihood he will call without the one-card straight versus the likelihood that he can beat your one-card straight (higher straight, or boat). Further, you are in a situation where a 3-bet will gain you an extra bet if you are ahead, but cost you two bets if you are behind (Villian will only cap with a hand which either ties or beats the one-card straight). So yes, perhaps I should have 3-bet, but IMO its not as automatic as you might think. |

Re: Those one-card straights--played correctly?
I dont 3 bet this either, if he wants to raise on the river with a weaker hand then encourage him to do so.
When you have him beat you pickup 1BB, when he has you beat you lose 2BB. |
