Default Mason \'Poker Essays 2\' re: 15% See Flop...

Curious if you could help me Mason or anyone else feel free to chime in...

In Poker Essays 2, re Limit Hold 'em. Mason talks about playing only top 3% vs an UTG/EP raiser but up to 40% of hands in multiway unraised pots when you are in position...

I can't seem to find anything marginally playable down past ~33% and I know this is kind of an anal question but what hands fall down around the bottom of the barrell but still playable...

I get down to about 54-suited and 98-offsuit...

hands like J3-suited or 86-offsuit, are those actually playable multiway/unraised?? if not, help me decide... and maybe a couple thoughts why XY is just not playable ever....

I want to be complete in my thinking, even if this is really just a super anal question...

thanks,

That guy

After tons of loose limpers, you can even play Q6s on the button.

Q6-suited is a monster compared to what I am talking about... (Vince Van Patten reference noted)...

I am just going hand by hand and I have already used up Q6-s Q5-s and Q4-s... still I can't get down near 40%

According to the HEFAP section on playing Short-handed (different stuff I know...but hang on for a sec):

any pair - 6%
any ace - 15%
any 2 cards 9 or higher - 12%
any other suited-connect down to 43s + 1-gap suiteds down to 53s - 4%
any Kxs not already covered - 2%

Total - 39%

Substitute some of the off-suit connectors down to 76 or even 65 (that obviously don't work well for short-handed) and even 1-gappers perhaps to 97o or possibly 86o and then take away some of the Axo hands and I think you're doing okay.

Add in the Qxs hands as well for even more fun.

I'm not sure if this reaches 40% or not....just my guess.
