KQo versus SB who bets ragged flop into my preflop raise
Paradise Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (9 handed) converter
I raised the flop because you can't always give in to aggression when the flop misses your raise, and here I had backdoor flush and straight draws to go with my overcards. The turn bet looks routine to me, but maybe I was going too far, taking a shot on the river. I didn't have much of a read on SB, except that he was moderately loose preflop. Comments appreciated Preflop: Hero is MP1 with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 2 folds, Hero raises, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, 2 folds, SB calls, 1 fold. Re: KQo versus SB who bets ragged flop into my preflop raise
Betting the river is terrible.
If you think he has nothing, I'd bet the turn and check behind on the river. If you think he probably has a middling pair, I'd check the turn and fold the river UI. Rob |

Probably, but I was getting over 8-1 on my river bet, hoping he'll fold a small pair. In your experience that isn't enough at .50/1?

I'd probably take the free card on the turn.

Re: KQo versus SB who bets ragged flop into my preflop raise
What's your reasoning on the turn? I thought the turn routine because of the combined flush, gutshot, and overcard outs, plus the chance that he'll fold a small pair. Admittedly it's the 2nd nut flush, and the overcard outs may not be clean, but this looked like a normal time to be aggressive.

I'm going to say this once. A default party poker player:
WILL NOT FOLD A SMALL PAIR TO ONE BET. Remember this. Remember it well. This is why you get paid off with overpairs as often as you do, or when you hit your overcards, or when you have your straight. Rob |

Yikes. I would probably check the turn and fold the river. If the villian will lay down on the turn, bet it and check the river.

Re: KQo versus SB who bets ragged flop into my preflop raise
Thanks for your input, folks. I get the overall sense, from this and another similar post last week, that I'm taking these HU hands too far. This agrees with my general impression of my results in this area.
It's very tough for me to back down passively HU, I think I have this pathological fear of being marked as weak tight, but I guess I need to force myself to slow down here, at least unless I have very good reads indicating otherwise. |
