Default making a website for someone

i'm making a website for a friend's dad's business. nothing SUPER fancy, but decent looking with 5 or so pages full of info, menu to access them, contact info, you know basic stuff. .. also some kind of login to give people read-only ftp access.

anyway what i'm wondering is how much should i charge for something like this? any ideas?

I think $15 - $19 an hour + expenses is pretty reasonable.

The thing is you probably can't charge anything close to what you make per hour playing poker.

So I'd be more inclined to just do it as a favor or get him to hire someone else.

I worked for a web designer a few years ago and the going rate was $55/hr, so the price was more dependent on how long the work took than how much work there was to do. I'm pretty sure that price has more than doubled by now, but since it's your friend's dad, I would have difficulty charging anything more.

You should be able to get $500, barebones minimum. I say closer to $750-$1000, but you're more likely to get scoffed at for that price.

$500 sounds about right. maybe i will say $400 just as a favor or something.

anyway it's not about hourly rate. i'm not one of those guys that has to debate going to the movies because it's 2 hours of my time and i could be playing poker and making $XXX
