Default Why poker players should vote Democrat

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...14&fpart=1

This is a repost from the General Hold 'Em forum because I think it is important to anyone making decent money playing poker online or otherwise. Several states, including my own, ban virtually any gambling, and in fact the article mentions law enforcement is cracking down against poker players. It also mentions that a bill has already floated around Congress that would ban Internet poker, and it has the support of Bush and many Republicans.

I, for one, hate voting for Kerry. I'm fiscally conservative and I hate big spending liberal douches. But I'm also socially liberal, and a poker player. A vote for Bush is a vote against our hobby. I've said my peace.

not to mention Ashcroft has shown a tendancy to do stupid stuff in the name of his religious beliefs (like covering up a statue with a 7000 dollar tarp....)

I can see him licking his lips already...

Shouldn't professional poker players have a lobbyist or two? We can join up with the casinos- do they have lobbyists?

Anyway, we need to organize somehow before they take our livelihood away.

The big hole in your argument is that this sponsored bill means anything.

Less than 10% of members of Congress in both parties support these anti-gambling bills. (Cubswin posted a list of the members a few weeks ago)

10% means it will never pass, and it is silly to vote on that basis.

A similar phony argument like yours on the Draft issue could be made:
All the votes for the recent Draft Bill came from Democrats, and it was sponsored by a Democrat. I guess that means the Democrats are for the Draft! (Well, no, even most Democrats voted against it)

I suppose this is less an issue of presidency or even Congress as it is State and Local gov'ts. Right now, I'm breaking the law by playing poker. Eventually, someone needs to take a stand.

Voting in any direction just because of poker is a bit extreme. I hope the economy, Iraq, and the war on terror are more important to people. I agree with Grey there should be lobbyists.

Are you sure about this? State laws have been discussed at lot here (in the zoo and NV&G forums). The conclusion seems to be in every state that if you are not making huge sports bets or acting as a bookie, you are quite safe. You are not the "house" when playing poker, and the law is not going to go after you. Search the forum for previous threads.

If you are truly a fiscal conservative, you should try and make sure the crazy spender currently occupying the White House through court order is not elected for four more years of burning up the federal bucks like there's no tomorrow!

Anyone but the lunatic.

So what you are trying to say is Bush would Veto this bill? I find that hard to believe since he hasn't vetoed anything. Not one spending plan, not one bill, nothing.

I would never have a chance to veto a bill that has no chance of ever getting passed.
