since you\'ve played online how has your tipping changed?
Ok short and weird story. I finally made it out to live play at commerce first seat that opened up was 9/18. Couple of rounds go by I raise preflop and bet on the flop and everyone folds on a small pot. Dealer does this tap with his hands but I don't tip. Next pot even smaller I get one caller bet the flop and turn where the 1 caller folds.
Ok that's not the weird part eventhough this has been like the tightest commerce game in their history. Again I don't tip and one guy playing shakes his head and the dealer smirks. Couple hands go by before I win a pot over $150. I tip two leftover $1 instead of the standard $3 I guess. Again guy playing shakes his head and mutters something (maybe he's also a dealer). I don't start anything but simply leave when my blind comes and then headed to hawaiian gardens where the 20/40 was rocking. Ok I used to tip nearly 80% of the pots I've won but the rake+jackpot is way too high, especially compared to what I'm used to online. Thus I will not tip as frivilously as most now. What are your thoughts on tipping since you've started playing online? |

Stop being so stingy and tip the man you cheap-o. Unless you win the blinds at least tip $1 and stop being a jerk. I tip more than you at a 2/4 game.

I don't know about you, but at no point in my Party Poker account creation was a large iron rod inserted into my rectum....
If I get more than the blinds, I tip. If not, I don't. |

ok guys, i'll chime in with the voice of reason, since you two dropped the ball.
tip if you want to. don't tip if you don't want to. standard $3??? that is VERY generous. i tip $1, no more no less, unless there's no flop or if everyone folds to my flop bet, then i tip $0. |

Re: since you\'ve played online how has your tipping changed?
I assume there might be some bias from poker dealers/players. Well $3 is a tad high but there were some who would tip the $3 chip and not ask for a break. The rake+bad beat jackpot are just ridiculously high and slow dealers basically thinking they deserve X amount each hand is lame. I tipped $2 in 3 pots I won, I used to tip much more but pokertracker has opened my eyes to the tens of thousands I pay in rake and if I have to pay $1+ for each pot I win that's just too much.

Where do you make all your poker profit, from online or B&M? To me B&M is mostly for fun unless you're playing much higher stakes where tipping doesn't affect you that much. Live play is entertainment and I don't think you need to be stingy with tipping since you're there for fun.

Re: since you\'ve played online how has your tipping changed?
As someone who started online I forget to tip quite often. Quite annoying as I don't wish to stiff the dealer. Sometimes if I get a bunch of small pots (rare at the low limits I play) I'll tip at the end of the down. Have also tipped $5 twice in a 2/4 once when opponents went to the felt (with nothing close to the nuts) and once when I jokingly told a dealer I'd give him a red chip if he dealt me AA, the *bleep* of course gave me AA 8-) He moved the game along nicely however and was quite competent (wish they all were)

Re: since you\'ve played online how has your tipping changed?
My tipping goes like the 1) do i like you 2) are you a good dealer.
so that means i only tip like 30% of the dealers at my casino. and its $1 for an average pot and $0 for a small pot. |

I've taken to tipping when they sit down, and keeping the whole pot.

Re: since you\'ve played online how has your tipping changed?
The first hand you said that you raised preflop and the bet and were folded to on the flop by 'everyone'. Lets just say that this 'everyone' is three people. after the raised preflop its a $72 pot minus the $4 rake and 1$ drop so you win $67. I am not sure exactly what the rake is in this room youre playing, but just for a number. You didnt tip. Were talking about 1/67th of your pot that you'd be giving away. I understand that it adds up after a while to a substantial ammount, however even that ammount is not that big when its considered all of the money that is going into and out of various pots. Tiping the dealer was not designed to be a large part of the income dealers get, however since it is treated by the government as regular income and is taxed as such, it gets factored into what the dealers salary is. When this is done tiping becomes much less optional regardles the size of the pot. In your case a measley 1/67th of your pot.
