A questionable HU play
My opponent was playing fairly ABC but he definitely was playing his hands like he was aware this was HU, and I think he had me viewed as a maniac, despite me only getting allin with the worst of it once the entire SnG and that time it was only because I had odds to call; I had just (the previous hand) made an ill-advised raise with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], he pushed with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and I had odds to call. Also the fact that I was playing a lot of hands towards the end of the SnG (chip leader, and the cards were hitting me decently, raising with stuff on the bubble like JTs, K9o, etc. though I didn't show most of it down) may have reinforced a maniacal image.
Hero is BB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Blinds 200/400, Villian has 4400 chips before posting blinds, Hero has 10600. Preflop: Villian completes, Hero checks. Flop (Pot: 800): Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Hero checks, Villian bets 950, Hero raises to 10200 (all-in), |

One person saying "you are a moron, check-fold" would suffice

Re: A questionable HU play
On a flop like that he probably has a piece of it. If he views you as a maniac, I doubt that he would fold after putting 1/4 of his stack in. With fold equity close to zero imo you have only one way to win, by hitting your str8. 1/3 of the time you win the tourney, 2/3 of the time he doubles up and you are even again. I don't think it is that bad of a play if you can outplay him after he doubles up.

Re: A questionable HU play
I wouldn't play it. With a big chip lead like that I wouldn't take a chance on that kind of hand. The big problem I see with it is that if he calls you need to hit a straight. It may be tempting with an open-ended straight draw but you still might lose because one end of that straight (k) opens up the possibility that your opponent has a higher straight. IMO, you have to have a pretty good reason to think he would fold in order to play this hand.

Re: A questionable HU play
You're a moron, check fold.
A lot of limping hands (T9, J9 etc) have you more or less dead. In any event you're going to lose the pot at least 2/3 of the time when he calls. Fold equity is close to zero. Note the size of his bet also, it's a clue. What kind of bet is 950? If you were trying to run a steal here, would you bet 950? Why add that bit extra on to the size of the pot? I think he added a little on because he has a pair and doesnt want you mucking about with hands like 94. You have a massive chip advantage and your opponent enjoys limping in from the SB. He can't win, so why mess about in this pot? |
