Seat 1 had just sat down and was unknown to me. Should I have slowed down at any point in this hand? I am nearly always happy to see people muck on 5th when my Aces are unimproved. But hands like this show me this must be spurious thinking... Final Pot: 10.25 BB Results in white below: <font color="white"> Seat 1 shows Ad Ks 9s 5c 2s 8d 8h (one pair, eights). Looks fine to me. You'd be surprised how often you can value-bet one pair on 7th.

I lean towards checking the river, but betting is fine too. I see no reason to slow down before the river, though.

I dislike checking the river there. In my short stud experience that lets the player bet his two pair with impunity, and stud players rarely bluff (at least the river) from what I've seen. Of course the counter to this is to check raise Aces-up and so-on. I would bet because(at least at Party $3/$6) he would call with any pair, and bet any two pair after I check.

I don't think you've given me any reason to check here. If you check and call, the same amount of money goes in as does when you bet and are called. By checking, you don't risk getting raised, and you have the chance to pick off a bluff. Worse hands will call, but hands that are significantly worse probably won't. The significantly worse hands may try to bluff at you, though. I say give them some rope, and see what they do with it. Also, a lot of low-limit stud player will check behind with two small pair, so you have the potential to save a bet a significant portion of the time that you're beaten. Worse hands will call you, to be sure, and you do have to call a bet if you check, but I don't think you'll be facing that bet all that often.

this is a fairly standard play at low limit. with three players you should check the river but heads up in this situation just bet the river. one piece of advice that i always held to heart was from bob caiffone, who said that as long as you have the hand that you are supposed to have you bet. he will pay just to see that he is beaten.
