TT 40-80
here's a 40-80 hand i played last night live game in l.a. i had TT utg+1. utg fish limps, i raise w/ TT, cutoff fish calls, button fish calls, sb fishy weird calls, bb calls, utg calls. 6 of us.
the flop is 974 rainbow. checked to me and i bet. the cutoff, button, sb, and utg all call. sb is a way too loose in some places but that's par for the entire table and he plays confidently postflop, but not necessarily good. he is not an awful player though and he is aggressive. this is the first time ive played with him so my details on him are sketchy as you can see. anyway the flop is a J rainbow still and now sb bets, folded to me and i raise, folded back to him and he calls. the river is a Q. sb bets, i fold. comments? |

Re: TT 40-80
It looks good, but I still don't feel so good about it.
His river action screams "value bet". Have you made any of these one-bet river laydowns at this table before? Like I said, it looks good, but it would have been nice to see a showdown. After the strength you've shown, a bet like this is either asking for a call or a desperate attempt to win the pot by some kind of weirdo missed draw. I probably would have called the river, but I don't mind that you didn't. |

"His river action screams "value bet"."
If this is true, I hardly think betting a nine here is a value bet. -Michael |

Re: TT 40-80
There's a TON of merit to limping preflop here, especially if the game is routinely this loose. Otherwise, fine.

Re: TT 40-80
Hi Mike L,
In the mid stakes online games, I think this is an easy call with the pot this size against an unfamiliar opponent. My reasons are 1. They still think you could have a high or a worse pair when you raise on the turn. 2. They think the Q might scare some of your likely hands. 3. Typical players would rarely bet a jack for value here since the double whammy of possible overpair and an overcard will shut them down. 4. If the Q made him 2 pair wouldn't he checkraise? etc. Basically I'll use anything as a pretense for calling in these heads up situations when the pot is big. |

My call on the river would be routine once you say
