Silly rumor -- it's easy to sign up for a new Empire account?

I read in another thread that it's easy to sign up for a new Empire account, but when I tried to cancel my Empire account a couple years ago they basically refused and just said they'd keep it around.

Can anyone give me details on whether this is the case, and if so, what the proper process is?

1) email them to shutdown your account
it won't totally disappear, but you won't be able to login with that screenname.

2) create new empire account with different email address

I think it's as simple as that
