KQ late stage tourney question
Last night Pokerstars $22 rebuy NLHE tourney. We are in the late stages, 49 players left, 4 spots from the money. Blinds are 1500/3000, 150 ante. Villian raises to 9000 and I have KQo. Villain's been raising a little too often I think. Not crazy but too often to have that many good hands. I put him on a moderately good hand like A medium kicker. I think my image is solid as I've only shown down good hands when called.
What would you do with my hand? Fold, call or re-raise all-in. And in considering re-raise all-in, do I have enough chips to get him off a hand like A9 with an all-in re-raise? Re: KQ late stage tourney question
looks like a pretty obvious fold to me. villain raised in MP, and you still have 3 people left to act behind you. if villain calls, you're likely dominated. and you're on the bubble (but villain has enough that he can call you and not stress whether he'll make the money).
why play? |

Re: KQ late stage tourney question
When he's been raising "a little too much", how much has he been raising? is this 3xBB standard for him?
He could have Ace-medium and up, King-ten and up, pretty much any pair, maybe something like JTs. Most of these hand's youre not a favorite against, and not by much if so. Do you think he lets go of ATs here? 88? I doubt it. He's likely bullying a bit, but KQo for 1/3 of your stack isn't my favorite spot to go. If you play, all in preflop is the way to go in hopes of settling it quickly. Calling off 1/3 of your stack to try to hit or outplay post-flop is a bad idea IMO, as in his shoes I insta-put you all in on any flop with any two. And up to now I've been ignoring the fact that you're 4 from the money, giving another reason to find a better spot. Just my 2 cents -Kings |

Re: KQ late stage tourney question
Hi Toro,
I'd really have to have a good feel for what he would fold here in order to make this move. He is going to be getting a huge price to make this call. Better than 2-1 (your 28k+his 9k and the blinds = 41k/call of 19k) with no real fear of not making the money. I dont think it is enough if he has a reasonable range of MP opening hands. Also, you still have players left to act behind you that might have you in bad shape. I would let it go...*fume*. Also, calling is bad IMO. How did it turn out? Re: KQ late stage tourney question
Thanks for the replies. I pushed and he called and had just what I thought he had, AT although it was suited. I was really pissed at myself for making this play as I naively thought I could make him lay that hand down. Major miscalculation on my part.
Basic lesson. Never try to bully a big stack with a small stack. I should have folded and waited for a better spot as with over 28K I still had a little time. Here's the rest of the hand. Re: KQ late stage tourney question
I like the play if your opponent has 5000, not if he has 7500. That being said he still made a pretty loose call, not saying I wouldn't make it myself, but its deffinitely a "Gambling" call.
