Trouble Against Calling Stations
I just ventured into the 3-6 6Max tables today and started off on a tear, and then I started getting my ass kicked. I'm having a lot of problems against calling stations. People that call a raise with any 2 cards and then call down no matter what. What kind of strategy should I employ against these people and any other general advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

Re: Trouble Against Calling Stations
They've discovered the ultimate way to play poker. The only way to beat them is to become a calling station yourself.

Re: Trouble Against Calling Stations
Thees types of players are unbluffable - hands with showdown value (smallish pps, mid- or bottom- pair) are worth value-betting, because they will call with so much rubbish. Semibluffing becomes almost worthless - take cheap cards with your draws and punish them when you hit. Avoid bluffing altogether.

Re: Trouble Against Calling Stations
Bluff very infrequently, value bet mercilessly.

Keep betting, eventually you'll beat them.

Re: Trouble Against Calling Stations
In games like the ones you describe, the distinction between value-betting and semi-bluffing can blur sometimes, more than usual, which is what gives me problems.
But, in theory, you should value-bet more and bluff/semi-bluff less. If your opponents are passive enough, they'll check behind on the river with better hands (that they wouldn't have folded) a fair amount of the time, so that's another complication that comes into play. |
