Default UTG with KQo... Did I play this correctly? Newbie.

I have read both WLLH by Lee Jones and SSH (although i need to re-read SSH to get a better understanding of a few of the concepts). I have been playing 0.5/1 on and off for about 3 weeks but have only played just over 1000 hands. I have not been doin very well and am still in the red but am hoping this is just due to variance. I have been playing full ring 0.5/1 but am wondering if short-handed may be more profitable and how I should adjust my strategy if playing short-handed? I have been doing my table selection based on average pot and have been trying to choose the loosest full ring games... is there any other way that I should be doing table selection? Anyways... here is the hand.

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is UTG with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
Hero calls, <font color="#CC3333">UTG+1 raises</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, MP1 calls, <font color="#666666">6 folds</font>, Hero calls.

Flop: (7.50 SB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls.

Turn: (4.75 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP1 raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero 3-bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP1 caps</font>, Hero calls.

River: (12.75 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="#CC3333">MP1 bets</font>, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 14.75 BB

Should I have 3-bet the turn?

welcome.
i'd raise preflop - changes the whole hand.
looks good otherwise.

if you are concerned about a specific point in the hand, stop the action there - because seeing that the turn got capped will influence people to say "no, you shouldn't have raised."

You should open raise this preflop. You would be well served making that a habit.

Considering the rest of the hand, given yr apparent lack of reads I play it the same on the other streets (given you didn't raise, which as tiltaholic correctly pointed out, changes the dynamic entirely).

It takes a few readings for all the stuff in SSHE to soak in. Hell, I've read it like 9+ times and still had an "ah ha" moment the other night while reading it.

Welcome to the boards.
