Default mike l. folds top pair again

20-40 i have A8o on the button, 2 live players limp, i call, sb calls, bb who is generally tight decent calls. 5 of us see the flop.

flop: AJ5 two spades. checked to guy on my right who bets, i raise, sb cold calls, bb cold calls, bettor folds. 3 handed now.

the turn is Jh. checked to me and i bet, sb calls, bb checkraises and i fold.

comments?

SB is obviously on a [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] draw, IMO. I think this is a good fold...could easily be up against J,5, trip J's, or A, better kicker.

If you're going to play this hand, then I think you've got to raise pre-flop.

As the hand went down, I would've checked the turn and called the river, provided that a spade didn't hit.

Being yuor a more experienced 2+2er. Please explain why yuo would play this hand and only limp. Please explain why yuo would play this hand at all with 2 callers already plus a BB who was not given a chance to fold his garbage.

many of you felt i shouldnt have played the hand preflop. im not sure that's true. given the looseness and awfulness of the players who limped i felt that folding this on the button was giving up too much. i think being able to get away from the hand when it's beat lends support to my preflop call.

now the question remains: was i beat? after i folded, so did the sb. my sense was that bb held J5 or 55. i bet a hand, that, if it was beat, held no outs. of course bb couldve been semibluffing w/ two spades but since i had never seen him play anything but straight forwardly before i didnt see it that way.

I'd play this hand. On the button, against one live limper, I'd play 100% of the time. Against two, I'd most likely play as well (I might not play if I think the blinds will come in regardless).

But if I'm not willing to raise pre-flop to get out the blinds and establish control of the hand, then I'd rather muck.

Are you nuts? You'd be much better off folding before the flop if you think it could possibly be right to fold on the flop after you've flopped top pair mediocre kicker just because some live preflop limper bets into you.

Default Nice hand.

Perfectly played. You have every reason to call before the flop, especially since the players that you describe would probably raise if they dominated you, but they didn't so there's a good chance you're dominating them. On the flop you have an easy value raise. On the turn you have another easy value bet, even better since you don't mind the raise: It's an easy fold. There are tons of hands who will call your turn bet with very few outs, while only a hand you are far behind will raise.
