Good/bad semi-bluff?
I've become bored with playing $1-$2 limit for bonuses at Absolute and now have the roll to start going through the low levels at no-limit.
However, I'm worried my no-limit play has become a little rusty. On the first circuit (so no reads), this hand came up. PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (8 handed) converter saw flop|saw showdown UTG+1 ($16.10) Hero ($48.50) MP2 ($2.30) CO ($16.40) Button ($19.15) SB ($57.25) BB ($229.80) UTG ($43.55) Preflop: Hero is MP1 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. UTG calls $0.50, 1 fold, Hero raises to $2, MP2 raises to $2.3, CO calls $2.30, 1 fold, SB calls $2.05, 1 fold, UTG calls $1.80, Hero calls $0.30. Flop: ($12) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (5 players) SB checks, UTG bets $2, Hero calls $2, CO folds, SB folds. Villian's bet is small and an Ace would likely put me comfortably in the lead and there's a backdoor flush draw. Should I make this call? Turn: ($16) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players) UTG bets $5, Hero raises to $20... Again a smallish bet from villian. I decide he's looking for a cheap showdown and therefore weak enough to fold out and go for the semi-bluff. Was this move wise? I bet the pot, is this too big/small? I'm leaning towards thinking that it was unnecessary to bet as much as I did as if he's going to fold, he'll probably fold for a smaller amount. |

Re: Good/bad semi-bluff?
i like it - seems like he's either holding Kx with a weak kicker or an underpair.
what do you plan to do on the river if he calls and your hand doesnt improve? |

Re: Good/bad semi-bluff?
Villian would have $20 left if he called. I'd have to check behind him or fold to a bet. If he called the flop he'll call the river too if a rag falls.

Re: Good/bad semi-bluff?
I vote (borderline) bad. You have a main pot/side pot situation here. You still have to beat MP2 for the main pot and you only have A high at the moment.
