boring but instructive
is this a clear fold to an overpair?
Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (7 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is UTG with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Hero raises, 4 folds, SB 3-bets, 1 fold, Hero calls. Flop: (7 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) SB bets, Hero raises, SB 3-bets, Hero calls. Turn: (6.50 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) SB bets, Hero ??? i feel that this type of hand i would call down 2 months ago, but now i know a bit better. the villain in this case is a borderline maniac, 54/8/1, who sometimes gets passive and calls down. he is on some huge swings (up $100, down $50). this is over 100 hands or so. |

Re: boring but instructive
Looks like he got you beat with JJ/QQ/ or KK. I would fold. Not enough in the pot to chase a 2 outer.

Re: boring but instructive
According to your read, I would cap the flop, if he then leads the turn. I would fold.

Re: boring but instructive
Say he capps the flop. If its checked on the turn do you bet or take the free card?

His QQ or whatever could be slowing down because he thinks you hit a set, or he could be looking to c/r. I'd take the cheapest showdown I can get. |

Re: boring but instructive
54/8/1 is not a borderline maniac.
Against this player (again, not a maniac), I think you can fold to the turn bet. Against a true manaic, I'd either call down or toss one more raise in. Rob |

Re: boring but instructive
I'm calling this down. You're getting 7:1 on the turn and will likely have to call a river bet so let's say you're looking at having to pay 2 to win 9. I think you're good here enough against a LAG to show a profit and if not you at least keep the guy honest. I'd fold if the turn was an A.
