What is the best strategy to use against a rock garden?
I've been bonus whoring the cryptos lately and have had a somewhat brutal transition coming from Party. My old semi-loose/aggressive style most definitely does NOT work at these $1/$2 tables where the average pot size is always under $10. It seems like every time I raise from MP with AJo and catch an ace on the flop, some rock just limped with AKs from EP. I also think my relentless continuation bets are hurting me badly. It seems like everyone else at those tables gives up on bluffing at the turn except me and the only hands that seem to call my bluffs are easily winners.
The only answer I can think of is to buckle down myself and do as the Romans do, but then I wonder if I'd even be able to beat them at their own game... I hate having to wait for premium cards. |

I hate having to wait for premium cards. [/ QUOTE ] Play 6-max. Stay away from 1/2 full. |

Forget bonus whoring at these other sites, you will make more money just playing at Party. At least that's the conclusion I've come to.

Oddly enough, I also hate playing short handed. [/ QUOTE ] If you ever consider playing at limits above 1/2, you are really going to have to start learning it. Every time it's folded to MP2, you should be playing like this is a 6 max table (albeit with a different that typical mix of players). |

[/ QUOTE ] Herein lies the problem. When your playing field is a rock garden you should loosen up your raising standards. This doesn't work optimally if you aren't skilled at playing Short-handed before and after the flop. Oddly enough the correct strategy for playing here is another thing you hate. |

Very well, you two convinced me. I will make an effort to improve my short handed game.

[/ QUOTE ] be patient with short-handed. i'm just learning too and it is exciting and fast paced, but damn these variances/downswings are brutal and there is a lot more thought involved than full ring. enjoy |

Re: What is the best strategy to use against a rock garden?
I'm clearing interpoker myself right now, and these guys are the definition of rocks for the most part.
I've been having good success by never open limping from anything later than ep2. Also, I tend to cut down on bluffing the flop and work more on bluffing the turn. This takes down a disproportionate number of pots, and otherwise clearly defines the other guys hands. |
