The official band name is just Pixies; but if you're going to refer them, it's often correct to use a lowercase 'the' preceding it -- e.g., "I am going to the Pixies concert tomorrow," just as you'd say "I am going to the Radiohead concert tomorrow."

Same goes for Beastie Boys; no official 'the' in their name.

Poor example. When you put "concert" in the sentence you have to say "the" in reference to the concert. The point is you would say:
"I'm going to see Radiohead tonight"
but
"I'm going to see the Pixies tonight"

/edit x2 The question is whether "the" is part of the name.

But the lowercase is the key -- it's not "I'm going to see The Pixies." It's "I'm going to see the Pixies."

Yes. Although I do see it capitalized a lot. My yahoo music player has them listed under "Pixies, The" and I've seen "The Pixies" many times.
