Default TT and tangling with the chip leader

Pacific $15 MTT tourney. Blinds 300/600. Average stack ~T5000. 165 people of 675 remain. Top 60 get paid, but I am playing for the final table. I just got moved to this table, so no reads.

Chip leader (~T18000) limps MP1. I (T8000 chips) raise to 1200 with TT in MP3. Folds around to chip leader who calls. Flop AKx. He leads the minimum. I raise to 1200 to shake him off the hand I hope. He calls the raise and checks the turn. I get wimpy and check as well. It gets checked down to river, and he takes the pot with A8o. Push it all in on the turn??? Wished I would have in a way, but I didn't have a decent read on the chip leader, so I got cautious. Thoughts?

EDIT - mistake on the blinds they were 200/400. I remembered tripling the chip leaders min bet on the flop and raising to 1200. my apologies . . . does that change anything?

yea that does change things. i would make it 1600 pf but im nit picky. i like to raise 3xBB +1BB for every limper when i have a strong hand. as far as his flop bet goes it depeneds how much he has been leading out, if alot then i think u can riase him but not a miniraise. the raise will prolly have to be allin

don't raise this flop unless you're going to push all in. you're throwing away chips without giving yourself any real fold equity against villain and its very unlikely you have the best hand anymore, so it cant be for value.

Raise it bigger pre-flop. I like the 3X BB + 2X Limpers with my strong hands, since Im usually a LAG. Therefore, Id raise this to 2K. On the flop, its read dependant, but if you are going to raise, you have to make a bigger raise than that. Push or fold on flop, given that I put 2k (25% of stack preflop) into the pot.
