Hypothetical pocket pair situation
Early in a party 10+1 you're dealt a small pocket pair. You limnp and one person raises. You want a cheap flop hoping to make your set or fold. How big of a raise would you call with:
22-55 ? 66-99 ? |

Re: Hypothetical pocket pair situation
How would 99 be any different from 22 if you're looking to set up or fold?
In an 800 chip game, if I'm the only one who limped, the next guy raised and it was folded to me, I'd call up to 45 more. That number goes up if there are more people who called the raise, and down if there are people in between me and the raiser left to act. |

Re: Hypothetical pocket pair situation
blah blah. minor details.
Honestly though, that's going to happen so seldom, it would really only be a change of a few chips here or there in the long run. |

Re: Hypothetical pocket pair situation
sure, but it is the difference between small pairs if you intend play past the flop iff you flop a set.

Re: Hypothetical pocket pair situation
can we have positions? if i have a hand like 33, i'm more excited if i limp utg and utg+1 raises. with something like 88, i'd rather limp on the CO (not that i would) and get raised by the button.
as for set over set, my v. rough math is that you'll flop set over set 1/8.5 * 1/8.5 * 2/3 (b/c one fewer flop card for the 2nd guy) = .9% when both have pp's. not a ton, but i'd rather be doing the stacking than getting stacked. 22 is counterfeited much more than 99. 99 plays way better against a8s. when you make a one-card flush, it's better. 44- make fewer one-card straights. |
