Dealer error?

Just wondering if this was an oversight or if it is just regular practice?

Playing at a NL $1 -$2 table at the Aladdin where the max buy-in was $200.
I found it strange that the casino/dealer allowed $100 bills and other casino chips to be in play. So you could buy in for your $200 one dollar chips and put them over five one hundred dollar bills or you could bring chips from Black jack and set then right beside your chips and they were also in play.

Was this an oversight? If it wasn’t why have a max buy in?

there was probably some sort of table stakes rule where only chips played. maybe the table games chips were different than poker? this could be the only thing i can think of.

Well the player may have banked chips for someone. Which means sold them. The cash has to stay on the table. There is nothing wrong with this, just saves time from changing those 100's to all chips at any time. And yes, in the Aladdin, any Aladdin casino chip can be in play. They will color you up to green or even black chips if you request so. You just have to keep them on the table and those must remain visible to all players.

Yes, there is a MAX buy in, but there is nothing wrong with winning several hundred dollars. It's called table stakes. This money cannot leave the table until the player leaves.

In MOST poker rooms, cash plays on the table. Usually only 100's. Yes, some rooms dont' allow it, such as MGM Grand. But yet they have a sign that says "CASH PLAYS" as you walk in the poker room. No one can figure that one out.

In the case of the Aladdin you didn't have to change up chips. You could just pull a few $100 bills and put them in play. I had an extra $200 in black chips and I added them to my stack without coloring up or anything. They were from a Black Jack win earlier in the night. So I actually started with $400 instead of the $200 max. Just thought it was a weird system since size does matter in NL.

If this is true this is a horrible rule. Most rooms have a rule the 100 or 500 are the largest chip that can play. It is unwise to allow a single chip that is larger than a normal buy-in to play as this can lead to a gross misunderstanding. Also the pit generally does not wnat poekr employees handling high dollar chips.

I actually called my boss at work to find out the exacts on it.

The OP shoulnd't have been able to put more chips on the table if he was at or above 200.

Second, 100 (blacks) are the highest denomination that are allowed to play on any game.
