My win rate at $1/2 NL live $250 max buy in--what do ya'll think?

My win rate at my local b&m is $20.58 for a total of 58 sessions and my profits for the last 94 days over 235 hours is $4,834. My win rate accuracy is 66%. I average about 17 hours per week. Poker is of course a part time obsession since I have a real job and use my poker for extra stuff. What do you guys think? Is my sample too small, which I think it is. I've been playing consistently for more than a year now and started playing 4 years ago. But started seriously taking notes about 6 months ago. What do you guys think so far?

Let's pretend you played 250 hours and made $5,000 just for some easy math. Let's say you get 30 hands in an hour, that's only 7,500 hands. A very small sample size. However, you are obviously winning, which is always good. If I did this right, you are probably making a little over 30 bb's per 100 hands. I might have made a mistake though. That is extremely good if I did the math right. I would consider a move up if I were you, even though this is a small sample size. From what I know, a good win rate for NL is 10 bb's per 100 hands. So I would say move up if you can find a 2/5 game or something that wouldn't be too big of a jump.

2/5 is a huge jump from 1/2 in NL. Plus the 2/5 is a completely different game with deeper stacks and more skill. I think a lot of players who could make 10BB at the 1/2 can not easily make 5BB (or more) at the 2/5.

If he was only making 10 bb's I wouldn't recommend him moving up.

I still dont think it would be time to move up. The game is usually drastically different. Whereas the difference between 3-6, 4-8, and 6-12 at most B&M's is usually non-existent skill-wise, there can be a huge jump in difficulty between a 1-2 NL and 2-5 NL. I am definitely not saying that he can't beat a bigger game, but it seems strange to want to head up when he is concerned about sample size AND he is killing the other game so well.

I dont understand why people put so much stress on changning limits. Who's to say you cant start playing 2 or 3 sessions of 1/2 for every 1 session of 2/5? Then, if your 2/5 sessions are going well, slowly increase that ratio until you are playing mostly 2/5. Nobody ever said "OK, its the ordained time to move up. Once you do, you can NEVER move back down"

Give it a shot, see how it goes.
