Default Live STT - How to handle a calling station

I'm determined not to make this post a bad beat whine, so I won't even mention my 91% and 85% favourites that got outdrawn, but I want help with this situation at my Home NL Hold Em tourney on Saturday. I was BB with KJo, had about 2300TC, and raised 200 preflop (4xBB - attempted steal). Had one caller (Loose passive), who had me covered by about 3-400.

Flop was K-rag-rag. I bet 200 again, opp. called, turn was a brick, bet 300, opp. called.
River was a brick, I bet 500 into the calling station, who called and turned over KQo.

My questions are - and I know this is somewhat player dependent - how badly did I play this hand, should I just seek to avoid marginal hands against this type of player, or should I have pushed more?
