Wrong end of the straight
I knew I was vulnerable all along. Not sure what I could have done to protect myself better.
I'm thinking I should have checked the river for sure, though. Re: Wrong end of the straight
Bet the turn if you don't wanna end up being like Linda Evans.
Why did you check the turn though? Brad |

Re: Wrong end of the straight

Not sure what I could have done to protect myself better. [/ QUOTE ] The way this dealt out, nothing. If somebody had QJ you were drawing dead from the jump. Anybody that just had the Q, or AQ/KQ/etc, was drawing to a gushot straight and never had the odds in the hand. Only slightly better protection would be offered by calling the flop and raising the turn. That way you're offering the gutshot Q 3 to 1 instead of 4 to 1, but I doubt it would matter. And I think that check/calling or check/folding the river is weak-tight. You have no particular reason to think you're not up against two-pair or TP (since anybody calling the gutshot with the Q was doing so incorrectly), and if you just check you're going to get bet into, anyway, which tells you nothing. Bet/call and fight another day. |

Re: Wrong end of the straight
I like how you finally bet once a terrible card shows up.

Re: Wrong end of the straight
How about a concept called 'betting out'. It works wonders when the bets are doubled.

Re: Wrong end of the straight
Bet flop, smooth call a raise on the flop if you plan to check/raise the turn, but after that, Ram-bino chips into the pot =/.

I knew I was vulnerable all along. Not sure what I could have done to protect myself better. [/ QUOTE ] If you think even the low end of a 3 straight is vulnerable, you are misguided. EDIT: A better way to say it is that you're never going to be able to protect against certain hands from drawing (such as the flush), but you typically have the best made hand on the flop right now, and it is very strong. |

Brad [/ QUOTE ] Nevermind that, why did he check the flop?? [/ QUOTE ] For the record, the turn check is far worse then the flop check. With so many people taking a flop, it is acceptable to check from the SB. I'm not saying that I would check the flop but there is nothing "wrong" in doing so. Brad |
