Default SB local vs. the Midwest Guy

Here is a hand I observed in the 10-20 MIrage game today.

Two limpers (one is a non-bluffing weak playing tourist from the midwest).

Solid and tight local raises in sb with red aces, bb local calls and 4 guys take the flop for 2 bets.

FLop is 9, 6, 3 all spades. SB bets, BB raises, limper 1 folds and midwest calls the 2 bets. SB calls.

Turn is a red 4. Blinds check and call when midwest guy bets. River pairs the 9. Blinds check and midwest bets. Blinds fold

Comments on Sb's play and river decision.

Babe

Well SB is in a textbook reverse implied odds situation, so he would have been better off folding to a flop raise and a cold call from a non-bluffer.

But if he's calling the flop and turn, the river probably doesn't change much so he should call the river too.

The sb's check-call on the turn and fold on the river don't mesh.

He's a MIRAGE REGULAR. MR's enjoy nothing more than folding for one bet on the river. It gives them stimulation that winning a $400 pot could never match.

"Solid and tight"?

In my player's notes on Party poker, I have some guys pegged as "solid" and some guys pegged as "tight".

To me, they mean two different things.

Here's my comment on the river decision:

So there's no way that tourist could possibly have pocket jacks?

There's no way I'm folding an overpair on the river for one bet in a large pot.

pokerbabe,

stay away from these regulars as i fear you may catch the disease.

sweat clark and learn. he's been vaccinated.

watch the anger on the MR's face yet good feeling he portrays with the muck of those aces. the MR loves it and hates it but is accepted amongst his cohorts. its good to be at home. but thats a home i'm glad does not have its walls around me, and pray it won't put you within its walls as well.

really thought pokerbabe. please please just stay with sweating clark so you don't every get induced to making that AA laydown. just b/c the midwest non-bluffer doesn't bluff doesn't mean hes NOT betting hands that lose to aces. he could think a lot of hands are good when they're not. gotta call.

If the sb played his hand badly I think it was on the flop and turn. I think the river fold is fine. He assumes that the tourist was playing either a flush or top pair in a straightforward/unaggressive/non-thinking fashion. He is willing to take the odds that the guy doesn't have the flush. When the top card on the flop pairs, now he doesn't beat anything because it is pretty hard to believe the the guy flopped 3s and 6s.

Ed, what do you think about leading out on the turn when the offsuit blank hits?
