Tournament of Champions.
I was going to make a thread earlier but decided not to simply because it wasn't THAT exciting that Hellmuth and Matusow were up in front... until I realized that they almost had 2x of the stacks behind them. This is pretty incredible, and though Matusow, I know, had some lucky hands it is still a remarkable feat for both of them to be doing so well.
So why is it that Hellmuth has done well in both tournament of champions? Is he really just THAT GOOD in a field where people know what they're doing? Perhaps he was right, and in a field where people are not taking as many gambles to accumulate chips he truly is an amazing player. Today will tell, I guess. Anyone want to guess the FT? Here are my picks: Phil Hellmuth Mike Matusow Keith Sexton Chad Brown Mark Hanna Michael Mizrachi Steven Dannenmann Doyle Brunson Hoyt Corkins |

Re: Tournament of Champions.
I just hope Hellmuth and Matusow make it. Those two at the final table pretty much ensures a great couple hours of tv, period.

Re: Tournament of Champions.
(From Cardplayer)
[ QUOTE ] Matusow is taking advantage of being seated at the featured table by really talking up the other players, particularly Phil Hellmuth. He's verbally sparring with Hellmuth over the fact that he received an invite to this event (along with Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson, who are also both still alive), rather than qualifying like the rest of the players. He's not restricting himself to Hellmuth, however, and has plenty of barbs to go around the table. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Tournament of Champions.
I bet Negreanu is even more pissed seeing Hellmuth and Chan way up there when they didn't qualify for the tourney.

Re: Tournament of Champions.
Originally, it was the top 20 points earners from the 5 ESPN Circuit events and the final table of this year's WSOP Main Event. For some reason, it was decided to add in Hellmuth, Chan and Brunson to the lineup. Many people got upset about this, and rightly so.

mike and phil will make final table.
I think phil is gonna make it. mike is a little too volitile but his chip stack will make up for it. whatever hands he loses will be overcome by blinds he stole.
However, i have a strong feeling they'll choke on final table. THey always seem to. |

The one we saw him at this year in the WSOP (PL Omaha), his bustout hand was completely impossible to get away from. I think he'll FT this and possibly win it. If he does, people are going to have to really respect his play a lot more than they are. |

Re: mike and phil will make final table.
Phil wins a 3 way pot with QQ, good stuff. He's pretty much a 100% gonna be at the final table, sounds liek he's playing really solid.
