ESPN Marketing
Doesn't it seem like ESPN spends a lot of time trying to support sports no one cares about?
They are televising little league baseball ad nauseum, they give the WNBA way too much time, and now they have a commercial trying to claim soccer has more than 2 fans. Why don't just they show what people want? Poker re-runs if nothing else is available. |

[/ QUOTE ] Well, they've done it for a number of years now, and are sending no less than Gary Thorne and Tony Gwynn to cover it. Obviously people are watching it. Soccer, which I despise also, is very popular in certain areas of the country, as is WNBA, though to a lesser extent. |

Re: ESPN Marketing
They want to be the leader in sports.
The fact of the matter is that anyone can cover MLB, NFL, NBA, and the corresponding (if relevant) college sports. CNNSI does a good job on these sports, Fox Sports is servicable, etc. The local news hour or the CNN daily sports half-hour will do a good job on the major sports. But they want to be the first destination, so they have to do everything. If someone is setting a world record in something sports-like, I'll turn on ESPN. That's what they want. |

Nobody cared about poker not too long ago. [/ QUOTE ] True. But these other sports need the equivalent of the "card cam" like poker has to make it big. |

Re: ESPN Marketing
Come on, who doesn't like watching Little League Baseball? It's fun trying to pick out the 15 year olds.
