Default Confidence Boosting -- 10/20 Hand #2

When I play poker I like playing confidently, and October did a good job of tearing away some confidence so the last few days I have been playing 8-tables of 10/20 6max to regain that necessary swagger, and along with that, analyzing my game more closely. Here is a a checkup hand from those first 3000 hands of playing this game:

5 handed, CO raises, SB 3-bets, I cap QdQh in the BB, both call.

Flop 9h 6h 5s. SB bets, I raise, CO 3 bets, SB calls, I call.

Turn 3h. check check CO bets, SB raises, I 3 bet. If CO folds I intend to check the river if it's not a heart/queen, if either 4 bet I am calling and folding on a non heart/queen river. If the river brings a heart or queen I am going to bet again.

Assume no reads for this hand or any hands I post, though I am playing 33/23.5/2.0 style and some opponents may or may not be noticing this.

Man I was so confused until I realized you had the Qh.

I think this is an extremely good play because you have to see the river regardless, and your reraise has a decent chance of knocking CO off a better overpair. Your river plan also sounds good to me.

Maybe this sounds weak, but I would give serious consideration to laying down on the turn. Too many times you're against Kh, Kx or Ah, Ax or a made flush here. A lot more often then when both of their hands are JJ/TT and Ah, Kx or whichever combination makes you out to be ahead or drawing live.

Aside from all of that, you won't be able to play the river confidently if you aren't sure which cards you need/want to hit.

Also....

ok lack of sleep can kill a person. I seriously thought you had suited Qd preflop. I was like wtf turn 3 bet. Then I reread the hand and saw you had Qh. After that I just want to say NH.

Hi Mike,

First of all I am sure you know better than I do. That said, I think it is perfect preflop and on the flop. When faced with two cold on the turn, I would agonize between calling and folding and probably decide reluctantly to call. Your 3-bet looks to me like a significant spew. I think it is very likely you are in 3rd place behind some combination of sets, better overpairs, or flushes. If after calling the two cold on the turn it gets 3-bet and capped back to me then I would fold immediately. If it came back to me 3-bet then I would call and probably be willing to call one bet on the river although I wouldn't be very happy about it.
