Default Was the Old Testament divinely inspired?

How do Jews and Christians answer this? Was the "Old Testament" or Torah written by God who dictated word for word to Moses. Or Was it written by Moses who was divinely inspired by God ( and if so, what is "divinely inspired"). Or was it written by Moses/ and or a group of people who did the best they could to recollect ancient history.

moses was taught the whole torah orally by god and, then, a bit later, he wrote everything down.

Thank you Zygote. If any one else wishes to post, I should clarify, that by New Testament, I mean just the first 5 books or the Torah.

Well at least it is believed to be so. That is why when they uncover scrolls from 4000 years ago that have parts of the bible on them they are exactly letter for letter the same as the bible we have today. Because the priests or whoever were determined to preserve the word of god.

I don't think such scrolls that old have been discovered.
