Just sat down, no reads, how\'s this with AQs?
My probes into NL200 have been successful, but I'm still a bit afraid and it'll take me a bit to become comfy. Anyway, here's the hand:
Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed) converter Hero ($207.5) SB ($275.95) BB ($210.15) UTG ($131.85) MP ($134.77) CO ($376.13) Preflop: Hero is Button with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $1. 2 folds, CO calls $2, Hero raises to $7, SB (poster) calls $6, 1 fold, CO calls $5. Flop: ($23) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) SB checks, CO checks, Hero checks. Turn: ($23) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players) SB checks, CO checks, Hero bets $15, SB folds, CO calls $15. River: ($53) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) CO checks, Hero bets $35, CO calls $35. Final Pot: $123 What percentage of the time should I bet out to take the pot down when I have no reads and none of my high cards hit? |

Re: Just sat down, no reads, how\'s this with AQs?
When your on the Button and you raised Preflop You must always come out betting
1.) Players have checked to you so you may win it right there with a 3/4 size bet. 2.) When You bet you will get to see not only the Turn, but if nothing hits there you can take the free card 3.) If you are bet into on the flop, Turn, or River you will be the last to act and can see what everyone does 4.) Texture of the board will also give you some type of clue what the others may have... -Mark |

Re: Just sat down, no reads, how\'s this with AQs?
You played the hand fine.
As per your question about continuation bets, you need to mix it up. Sometimes you should bet, sometimes you shouldn't. It depends on your opponents, your image, etc. A lot of people suggest mechanically making continuation bets whenever you're the preflop raiser. Against people that are paying attention this is not very sound imo. i.e. if this is the 5th hand you've raised preflop, and all of the others you bet on the flop, they're going to heavily suspect you of having overs. |

It can also help you steal the pot later when you don't hit your overs. |

Re: Just sat down, no reads, how\'s this with AQs?
I'm not sure what your standard raise is, but don't change it at a higher limit. I always raise 4xBB + 1BB for each limper, so in this case would've made it $10 preflop.
As others have said, you've got to mix up you continuation betting, but a 3/4 pot bet here is what I would do on the flop (especially with a stronger raise preflop). |

don't give blanket statements like always bet it on the flop.
I've been check raised enough with nothing on missed overs to not bet the flop every time. |

Re: Just sat down, no reads, how\'s this with AQs?
for the most part you usually should bet this flop, but checking is fine too as long as you're mixing up what hands you're betting and what hands you're checking here to protect your shania.
