A6s, turn and river questions
How do I handle this turn and river? I bet the turn because I have an awesome draw and plenty of callers. I think if I bet the river I might have won the hand. With loose callers at these levels I wouldn't expect A high to win this pot against this many callers very often.

Re: A6s, turn and river questions
Are all three capable of folding on the river? Usually not at the micros. You want to bluff and semi-bluff almost never at these levels. So, I'd lean towards the check.

Betting the turn is good. Betting the river is bad.

Betting the river is bad. [/ QUOTE ] I know this, and I'd expect A high to win this < 5% of the time. AKo won the hand, at first thought I looked at the results (which I shouldn't). |

Re: A6s, turn and river questions
I like your flop bet a lot. Yr pot equity is likely ~35%. It goes down considerably on the turn, and I would probably take a free card there. It's a thin value bet on a paired board, and I would put yr equity at >20%, less than what you need to make money. On the river, don't bet into four muppets. One of them is calling you with a better hand. Some clown usually has bottom pair here or or 33 or something lame that beats you and will call with it.
EDIT: I just got up and missed the straight draw. (Having my coffee right now.) The bet on the turn is good, and taking a free card is not a crime -- just passing up a relatively small edge. |

Re: A6s, turn and river questions
The turn bet is fine. You want to discount your straight outs a bit since you only have a one-card draw and will often end up chopping if you hit, but the combination of the straight draw, nut flush draw, and overcard is still worth ~15 outs. So if you choose to bet the turn and get a couple of callers you've eaked out a little value.
Taking the free card would have been okay too. Sometimes somebody will have hit trips on the turn which further devalues your draws. In that case you are getting check-raised which isn't a total disaster since you still have good prospects to improve, but in that case you'll usually wish you had just checked behind on the turn. Against passives, this scenario is fairly unlikely though, so betting is right play IMO. |
