Default justified in calling?

Playing a live NL game earlier this evening and get dealt pocket 8s. Guy UTG raises to 4xBB. Everyone folds and I call. Flop comes J 5 7 rainbow. He makes another 4xBB bet. I put him on two overs and decide to push (approx. 12xBB) He deliberates for a bit then calls with A Q. He rivers an Ace to win the hand.
My question is as follows: did he have any justification for calling? Aside from getting a runner-runner straight, his only outs were A or Q.
Was I right in going all in?

If he knows that you have a made hand, pot odds does not justify his call, no.
